Investigations

     The Detectives of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office are tasked with the investigation, intelligence gathering, and prosecution of serious criminal violators. The Detectives work with the Deputies, Lieutenants and other law enforcement officers from varying agencies to safeguard the apprehension of violators within Athens County. 

Included in Investigations is the Athens County Narcotics Unit (ACNU). The ACNU specializes in investigating narcotics-related crime. The ACNU is responsible for investigations relating to the possession, trafficking, and use of narcotics and dangerous drugs. These investigations include the gathering of intelligence, pursuing criminals, tracking controlled purchases of narcotics, surveillance of suspected drug traffickers, and prosecuting drug-law violators. The ACNU also works with the other municipal agencies as well as numerous state and federal agencies to apprehend the drug-violators within Athens County.
