Lieutenant Aaron Maynard was promoted to his current position as Patrol Lieutenant in February of 2009. Starting his law enforcement career in 1991, he is a graduate of the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy in 1996 and has been with the Athens County Sheriff’s Office since 1998. A graduate of Westerville South High School, Lieutenant Maynard received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in law enforcement technology from Columbus State.

Lieutenant Maynard began serving his community by enlisting in the Ohio Air National Guard in January of 1991 as member of the 121st Security Forces Squadron, Columbus, Ohio. Maynard has achieved the rank Senior Master Sergeant and currently serves as the Operations Superintendant. Prior to this assignment he managed several functional areas with a large capacity of his career being assigned to the training section. As a core trainer and ultimately unit training manager, Maynard was called upon to train personal in all branches of the United States Services to include international forces and has had the privilege to deploy in support of both OPERATIONS ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM.

In March of 2005, he committed to becoming an adjunct instructor with Hocking College. Lieutenant Maynard instructs in the School of Public Safety Services Police Science Program in the areas of laws of arrest, search and seizure, interview and interrogation, along with investigative skills, and patrol practical application. As a certified instructor in the Ohio Peace Officers Basic Training Program, Maynard utilizes his established instructor certifications to educate police recruits with the skills necessary to perform in today’s law enforcement environment.

Lieutenant Maynard has received numerous awards and citations throughout his law enforcement and military career including; The Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Commendation Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Air Force Achievement Medal.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Aaron Maynard established himself as a highly organized, take charge professional with more than 18 years of law enforcement and military experience. His strong problem solving and decision making skills with his ability to develop and implement effective action plans has led to prosperous organizational growth under Sheriff Patrick Kelly. Lieutenant Maynard’s proven leadership skills and experience in personnel management while providing motivation and training by example has led to organizational respect and will assure future success within the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
