Enforcement Division

Patrol still remains our most visible arm of the Enforcement component and is the backbone of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. This division, under general supervision, consists of Deputy Sheriffs serving the county in a proactive approach to problem solving and community policing.  This division is responsible for responding to calls for service, investigating crimes, maintaining law and order, providing evidence for prosecution, conducting arrests or seeking indictments, as well as conducting traffic enforcement.  They are also responsible for service of subpoenas, summons, warrants and other legal documents as issued by the courts.

The Sheriff is responsible for servicing a landmass of approximately 508 square miles. This covers 63 US highway miles, 148 State highway miles, and 1,044 County, Township and Municipal road miles.

The Enforcement component consists of 29 sworn personnel with 2 administrators, 5 supervisors, 5 detectives, 2 transport officers, and 2 school resource officers.
