The Athens County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit is comprised of Deputy Joe Banks and his partner Bora.
Bora was born in Germany and came to the United States in the spring of 2016. Bora received extensive training for 12 weeks at Pine Grove Kennels in Tuppers Plains, Ohio. Bora is a dual purpose canine certified in narcotic detection and patrol duties to include tracking, apprehension and article search. Bora along with Deputy Joe Banks are working tirelessly to remove drugs from Athens County.
The unit also goes to schools, fairs, and other public events providing demonstrations on the important work they do, as well as showing the public how well they are trained in getting the bad guys – while also showing how friendly and loving they are with the good guys.
